Lisa Fort, CFRE


Lisa joined STEP because of the committment Carolyn and Rivers have for the children and youth of our communities. She wanted to offer her expertise in nonprofit fundraising and bring best practices and accountability so that STEP will thrive. Lisa is a Transylvania Co. native and has spent over 20 years in the nonprofit arena and holds the credentials of Certified Fund Raising Executive. She and her daughter love to do crafts, play board games and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. They also love animals and have 4 ducks, 2 rabbits, a cat and a dog.

Marcus Lester


 Marcus joined STEP because Rivers and Carolyn share the same passion of serving others as he does. Serving STEP provides him an opportunity in using his gift of loving others to actively serve the community. He is a native of Fayetteville, NC but has spent the last 25 years serving the Brevard/Henderson area.  He has served in youth ministries, the Boys & Girls Club, and served Transylvania and Henderson county schools.  Marcus currently serves the special needs community through MACS (13 years) and enjoys making any event fun and memorable through his gift of Disc Jockeying skills with Class & Sound Entertainment. In his free time he enjoys watching football and working out.

Sarah Grace Montgomery


Rev. Sarah Grace Montgomery is the Associate Pastor at the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in Brevard, NC.  She is passionate about Youth and Children’s Ministry as well as Mission and Outreach in the community and world. Before coming to Brevard, Sarah Grace served for 13 years at churches in Charlotte, NC.  Sarah Grace is married and has two beautiful children who fill her heart with joy and keep her on her toes.  She enjoys cooking, living room dance parties and discovering the Holy in the ordinary each day.

James A. Whitcomb, PhD


Jim joined Rivers and Carolyn to help form the corporation and serves as Treasurer. He has a passion for using his skills to help other be successful in their God given ministries. Dr. Whitcomb was a scientist and engineer for Bell Telephone Laboratories, DuPont, Sterling Diagnosic Imaging, and Agfa Corporations. After retiring he taught at Blue Ridge Community College and worked for Transylvania County Board of Elections. He has been married for 45 years, has three grown children and three grandchildren.
